100m surfers hunt down Firefox
PC Pro: News: 100m surfers hunt down Firefox: "100m surfers hunt down Firefox 5:35PM
With its first anniversary fast approaching, the successful open source Firefox browser has racked up 100m downloads.
Often seen as a more secure alternative to the much attacked Internet Explorer, the browser created by Mozilla.org raced past 50m downloads within four months of its full release in May - Firefox breaks 50 million download barrier.
A statement on the organisation's website thanks the collaborative efforts of thousands of contributors worldwide, volunteers who have fine-tuned the program's development and helped 'take back the Web'.
'Mozilla also congratulates the members of the Spread Firefox community for their success in reigniting the Web by driving the popularity of the browser,' it reads. 'Their global grassroots efforts have set a new standard for software marketing and played a significant role in helping Firefox to achieve this amazing milestone.'
Version 1.0 of Firefox made its debut almost a year ago, in November 2004, and quickly captured market share from Internet Explorer. In recent month's however, it hasn't had things all its own way, with reports that its growth was slowing - Firefox faltering for market share.
A Firefox 1.5 release is expected later this Autumn (Firefox 1.5 Beta 2 is currently with testers)."
100 Million!! That is a lot...if you don't already have Firefox then leave The "L" (yes leave my website) and download it. IE is no comparison to Firefox.
