iTunes marks billionth song download with generous prizes for customer: "Michigan's Alex Ostrovsky might have never imagined that his purchase of Coldplay's 'X&Y' from iTunes will net him much more than the album. Apple Computer today announced Ostrovsky as the lucky customer who downloaded the billionth song 'Speed of Sound' which is part of the album bought and downloaded by Ostrovsky from its online music store.

The company said the customer will receive ten new 60GB iPods, a 20-inch iMac and a purchase voucher worth $10,000 from the iTunes Music Store.

In a statement to the press, Apple said it would also create a scholarship in Ostrovsky's name at the Juilliard School of Music."
