RED HERRING | Google Print to Resume Soon: "Google said Tuesday it had not resumed digitizing the world’s texts as planned after pressure from publishers led the search giant to suspend scanning books more than two months ago, but the company said the work would begin again soon.
The company put its Google Print plans to create a searchable online database of millions of works on hold on August 14, citing concerns from publishers and copyright holders about copyright infringement (see Google to Library: Shush!)
Google was supposed to resume its program Tuesday. But in a posting on its official blog on Monday night, the company said it was “in the process of resuming scanning,” and would make the service available very soon.
The posting also said the search giant had been successful in working with independent publishers through a program that invites publishers to submit their work to be indexed. It also reiterated that the print program would not allow people to view a book’s entire contents..."
